Let me not to the marriage of true mindsAdmit impediments. Love is not loveWhich alters when alteration finds,Or bends with the remover to remove:O no! it is an ever-fixed markThat looks on tempests and is never shaken; It is the star to every wandering bark,Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeksWithin his bending sickle's compass come:Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,But bears it out even to the edge of doom.If this be error and upon me proved,I never writ, nor no man ever loved.-- Shakespeare
A good friend of mine has always been idealistic (repudiated several times). With his newly ended relationship, he had applied the power of Sonnet 116.
There were a couple of instances I wanted to break a loud laugh the other night over dinner, but decided not to. It wasn’t the right time. Though I did smile and laughed a bit, I had no urge to act that way because even though he was smiling while sharing his story, I saw the pain in his eyes. At some point I wanted to hug him (like what I usually do to my friends, guy or girl) but realized that I might shock him to death *hahaha* like what nearly happened when my hand touched his last time (I can’t stop laughing now). So I decided to just not move and save him.
So what is it about Sonnet 116?
True love is true love. Shakespeare’s words in the sonnet equals the highest level in the love meter… or probably more than the highest level. Just like Human Torch’s temperature from the movie Fantastic 4 in 2005 (may I just say that Chris Evans fits the role. He is so hot! Do you remember the part when he was naked and he was just covering his lower body part with a jacket? The looks and the body… Jeeezzz…)
Back to Sonnet 116 (behaved now). Indeed it is true, when you truly love someone, there’s so much you can do. You can give so much and you wouldn’t even notice you’re giving it all. It’s like, there’s no end to it. Everything’s simply automatic. No space for selfishness and pride. You won’t even care if it’s reciprocated or not on the same level.
My friend decided to stop it. Control all the giving. Space is really needed for both of them to realize things. The girl may realize something new. Same goes with him. But more or less, they’ll fall on opposite ends.
Yet, I still hope they wouldn’t. He is too in love to get bruised like that.
Sonnet 116… *sigh*
